04/19/2009: The Giant Nevus was removed!

We are back from Chicago and I am recovering from the removal surgery! Dr. Bauer was able to remove the ENTIRE giant nevus!

I'm pretty sore and I have allot of stiches, but I am in good spirits and am resting allot!

A small portion of the expanded skin didn't survive, but the Doctors say it will heal up soon and I will be ok.

Thank you everyone for caring and keeping me in your thoughts and prayers.

I will keep you posted on my progress. Madeleine

03/25/2009: Removal Surgery

It's been awhile since we've updated. Things have been progressing along well. My expanders are nearly full now, and my removal surgery is in Chicago on April 13th.

We haven't posted any pics of the expanders because we think it might be a bit much. They are HUGE. The Doc says he thinks they look great, and there should be enough skin grown to cover the removed Nevus skin, which is GREAT news!

We will keep everyone updated as things progress.

It's almost Spring!! Yay!!!

02/05/2009: Tissue Expanders

Pic

My tissue expanders are in place and my Mom and Dad have to fill them every Friday to help create enough skin to replace the bad Nevus skin in April.

I'm doing really well after the first surgery, and things seem to be progressing just as Dr. Bauer hoped! I posted a pic in the pics section to give you an idea of what they look like. They will be 3-4 times as big in April.

Thank you everyone for showing me your thoughts, love, prayers, and donations! Madeleine

01/21/2009: I'm Out of surgery!

We made it to Chicago! We are staying at the Ronald McDonald House. I had my first surgery yesterday. They put the tissue expanders in, and removed some of the lesions in the Nevus, plus they excised a portion of the large mole on my cheek. My Mom and Dad are having a hard time dealing with the drains, but they are doing good. All in all it seems to be a success!

I had a real hard time last night, but I've been feeling better today. Everything went well and we are going for a follow up visit ...

Me and all the kids in Mr. Palmers class!

11/25/2008: Mr. Palmer and Mrs. Harrisons classes!

After some of the kids at Tecumseh Middle School saw the article in the Tecumseh Herald about me, they asked Mr. Palmer if they could do something to help in my fundraising effort. So they got a box and started putting whatever spare change or left over lunch money they had in it.(incidently, Mr. Palmer was both my Mom and Dad's teacher many years ago, when they were these kids age, which is pretty cool.)

So Mr. P called my Dad the other day and asked if I could come visit with all the kids. I got to ...

A lady named Fannie just called and she met me at Appleumpkin. She has decided to go door to door helping generate donations for me. WOW!
